Bags by KEL-C
I live in a small beach town in Northern California, and I'm fourteen
years old. I have grown up loving sports like basketball, soccer,
ice skating and gymnastics. I work at the local surfer's grill and
love to skateboard with friends.
One of my favorite things to do is flip through magazines and make
collages for my binder, locker and walls of my room. The pages get
my creative juices flowing; I love to look at colors, shapes, fabrics
and designs. What really captures me are bags. Ever since I was
a little girl I've loved carrying purses or bags where ever I went.
In my bag you'll find my cell phone, wallet, bubble gum, lip-gloss,
and my friend's iPod.
I first got into designing my own bags when I would go to the fabric
store with my mom, and I would look for cool fabric. Inspired by
the fabric I would create book bags, cylinder bags, and others.
My mom taught me how to draft a pattern, using shapes and measurements,
and I learned to sew the bags that I had imagined.
My mom has been a great source of inspiration. She loves to sew,
and used to design hand painted silk clothing. As I grew up watching
my mom sew, I became familiar with the sewing machine and wanted
to create accessories that expressed my personality.
One day, I was imagining unique accessories and thought that the
John Deere logo would be an exciting new trend. That same day while
in a fabric store with my mom, I came across a bolt of John Deere
fabric. What a great surprise!
I was so inspired by the fabric that we bought two yards - of course,
to make a bag. I designed the bag that night. One day, I received
an e-mail from www.fredflare.com
informing me that they were looking for young creative talent. I
thought this would be a great opportunity for me. I couldn't wait
for my designs to be discovered! I sent a picture of my John Deere
bag back to the website, and they wrote back saying they wanted
a sample sent to New York. They loved the design and the quality
of the work, and wanted to sell the bag on the website as soon as
possible. I've been making bags ever since and achieving my life-long
goal. This truly is a dream of mine. I'm so excited that teens are
viewing and buying my original bags. In the future I hope to design
not only bags, but other fashionable attire and accessories as well.
Perhaps one day my designs will be worn and admired by people all
over the world!
Today. Tomorow.
The future. Your future.
You.
Inspire. And be inspired by girls everywhere! That's FGBG!
